[Episode 01] Skip Beat

As far as I remember the anime starts excactly like the manga, but since it’s already a few years ago that I read the first volumes of the manga I’m not too sure about it… anyways.

Anime Fall Season ‘08

Hoo yeah.. another season has passed with all the great stuff like Natsume Yuujinchou, Yakushiji Ryoko and Persona… I still need to catch up on ALOT of series, but I couldn’t resist the awesomness this new season had to offer. So here’s a brief overview of the animu that picked my interest and of the few I’ll probably cover here.

01) Kurozuka

Definitely something I wouldn’t have touched if it weren’t for that one sentence of description on a certain subbing group’s site: “It’s an epic tale of love and obsession[...]” and indeed, starts off VERY nicely.  Based on the Heike vs. Genji story it’s about Kuro (Minamoto no Yoshitsune) and Benkei who are fleeing from their pursuers – in the woods they notice a light which belongs to a single house surrounded by nothing but trees, they decide to take shelter there and meet the owner of said house: Kuromitsu, a mysterious, beautiful woman who allows them to stay as long as thay want under one condition: To never enter her chamber in the back of the house.

02) Casshern Sins

Again, a very unusal series for me.. but it’s just too awesome. Very Matrix’ish, just without any Matrix at all. A very post-apocalyptic setting on a Planet mostly inhabited by robots; a young man named Casshern finds himself pursued by the robots as they say he is the one who caused the “Ruin” – the decay all the robots are facing right now, by killing Luna. But he does not remember a thing, not about himself nor Luna or anything at all, so as he meets other people and defends himself against the continued attacks of the robots he starts remembering the things that happened.

03) Chaos; Head

Chaos; Head, based on the novel game of the same name is a thriller-suspense-something anime revolving around Nishijo Takumi who is a very unlikeable otaku with no interest in 3D girls or anything not anime/game related and lives in a container on the roof of a high building. On top of that he is very delusional, having hallucinations of talking to one of his fav anime characters and very paranoid. Soon the weird events start, connected to the recent murder cases, someone sends him a weird link to a picture of a corpse and a day later he witnesses the murder scene of the very same corpse. But did these things really happen or is it just another of his hallucinations?

04) Mouryou no Hako

It is.. so.. beautiful…… even though it was very different from what I expected it’s rather nice… haha, this is the season of suspense animu! *_* A-anyways, from the four main protagonists you only see two in this first episode and only for a short time; the story is focused on two girls, Yoriko and Kanako. Yoriko is very obsessed with Kanako and after she tells her: “You are me, and I am your reincarnation.” their strange friendship takes a surprising turn.

05) Hakushaku to Yousei

This is the story of Lydia, the fairy doctor who aids those who have trouble with fairies since she can see them, and Edgar, the descendant of the Earl of the Fairy Nation, who needs Lydia’s help to find the sword which will give him the right to enter his kingdom, since he himself can’t see the fairies. OH HELL YEAH! The anime is awesome and cool, girly and shiny and it has a talking cat that drinks whiskey, what more could you want?? :3 It’s all that what all those young-adult-fantasy-novels try to be but never achieve.

06) Skip Beat

Finally. Yes, there’s nothing more to say but “finally”. It was about time an anime for this amazing series would be released. Kyoko loves Shotaro more than anything and devoted all her life to him and his dream of becoming an singer, when he asks her to come with him to Tokyo to fulfill his dream she gladly accepts, but life there is anything else but bliss and one day he overhears a conversation between him and his manager where he says that she’s just a convenient housekeeper, she snaps and swears to get revenge on him. He tells her she’s have no chance since he is all famous now. So Kyoko decides to become even more famous than him!  – I have to admit, I haven’t yet seen the first episode, I’m still waiting for a HD version, but from what I’ve seen from skipping through it and if it’s anything like the manga it’s HILARIOUS! <3

07) Kuroshitsuji

Uhm… I’m still not too sure what this is about but… XD The young lonely heir of a big toy company, who is a little brat and has some kind of tragic past, makes a pact with a devil (I guess, he looks more like a vampire tho) who becomes his servant and does a formidable job at it. Together they.. bully adults who insult the little brat and try to rip him off his money….. there are also the four sidekicks, the dumb gardener, the useless cook and the hilarious clumsy maid with the awesome voice and the butler who… does nothing at all. Seriously, I don’t get this series yet, but Sebastian is like THE MOST AWESOME AND SEXIEST SERVANT EVER AND IT IS NOT YAOI! So it is a good series, righ? XD At least it got lots of wacky humor and is very, very dark at the same time…

08) Toradora

I’ve seen ppl compare this with Zero no Tsukaima, but I never liked ZnT, the first episodes where way too boring and I really couldn’t stand Louise. But I really, REALLY like Toradora. Taiga is so annoying but awesome and I LOVE characters who look mean but aren’t, like Ryuu… I like how they meet, how they are in love with the others best friend and how they are just too shy to admit it even tho both of them are so popular for reasons. Oh.. well, the story is about Ryuu who has a mean face which he got from his gangster Papa but actually he is really nice and Taiga, who is an awful meanie and very strong on top of that even tho her body is so small and she looks cute. Ryuu finds out about Taiga’s crush for his best friend and she tries to kill him for that, so he tells her that he’s in love with Taiga’s best friend too and they decide to help each other out. :3

09) Shikabane Hime Aka

I have yet to see the full episode, but basically it’s GAINAX and a boy who finds a corpse of a girl which gets brought back to life by his big brother and to go to heaven she needs to kill other zombies. Wee~ I just hope the main character isn’t annoying and wussy as some other GAINAX “heroes”.. XD

10) Tales of the Abyss

Mhn… it’s excactly like the game, just full drawn animations, wohoo.. the quality of the animations is not as awesome as the ones in the game, but IT HAS KOYASU-SAMA’S VOICE SO I HAVE NO REASON TO COMPLAIN AT ALL! *_* Ahem. Well, you play.. I mean, you follow Luke who is the son of the king of the one kingdom which is at war with that other kingdom. One day a beautiful girl disturbs Luke’s fighting training, trying to kill his teacher, he jumps in front of his teacher and a  bright light takes him and the girl somewhere else, together they try to get back to the castle, but whoops, it turns out they are in the enemies kingdom! ….yeah, that’s basically all that gets covered in the first ep… but there’s also ep2, FEATURING JADE! <3

11) Toaru Majutsu no Index

This.. looked much cooler than it turned out to be, it still sounds interesting, even tho there’s too much loli. The hero, Toma has the worst luck ever, always getting into situations that nobody wants to be in. Living in a town where everyone has Esper powers that’s not always so cool. One day a little nun.. uh “rests” on his balcony and asks him for some food, she says she is the owner of the thousand-something Grimoires, magical books, and that ppl are following her who want them from her, so poor Toma gets involved into a bigger mess than he would have ever imagined!

12) Ga-Rei: Zero

Mhn, the most disappointing of all the series I’ve started watching so far, I can’t really tell what it is that annoys me, but oh well. The series starts off with the hero standing in front of a grave, remember the death of a girl which was caused by a silver haired shota boy. Then he gets picked up by a women on a motorbike, they drive off to help out the special force that fights against some ghost/zombies/something and a giant turtle. They kill everything and then a bigger monster appears. I.. couldn’t force myself to watch more of it so far, but the first 10 minutes didn’t impress me much, I hope it gets better since I really like the art. :/
